On May 29, Ambassador Allan Mustard visited the “Ahal” power plant located in the Ak Bugday district of Ahal province. Ahal power plant is the largest gas turbine power plant in Turkmenistan and has a total capacity of 650 megawatt (MW). The plant has a total of seven gas turbines including four 9E and three LM6000 gas turbines supplied by American company General Electric (GE). The representatives of GE and the Ministry of Energy as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accompanied Ambassador Mustard to power plant. A GE representative and a chief specialist of the power plant gave a tour of the facilities of the power plant including the control room and gas turbines. Ahal power plant supplies power to many parts of the country including direct power the Ashgabat’s Olympic Village that will host the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG).
