Fulbright Foreign Student Program (Master’s Degree)

Open Competition for the 2019-2020 Academic Year

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program provides opportunities for outstanding Turkmen graduates and mid-career professionals to pursue studies in a one or two-year master’s degree program at some of the leading U.S. universities beginning in academic year 2019-2020. Applications are accepted in all disciplines and fields except medicine. Preference will be given to candidates who have not studied in the U.S.

Candidates should possess:

  • a university degree and corresponding diploma with transcript;
  • proficiency in English appropriate to enroll and study as a graduate student at a university in the United States. All candidates will need to take a TOEFL exam with a minimum 550 score received on paper based test, as well as a GRE test (more information about the tests and sample exams can be found on http://www.ets.org/toefl and http://www.ets.org/gre). In some cases a GMAT will be necessary instead of the GRE (see information about the GMAT on http://www.mba.com);
  • a minimum of 2 years of work experience;
  • current U.S. residents are ineligible for the program.

Application process

The application and all the supplemental forms can be found on https://iie.embark.com/apply/ffsp. All supplemental forms need to be either uploaded to the application (preferred), or sent to AshgabatEducation@state.gov (if an upload is not possible). Please note – all documents issued in a language other than English must have an official English language translation. The scanned original and the translation must be in a single document no larger than 2MB. Do not send any originals to the U.S. Embassy.

Submitting recommendation forms: The application will direct you to register the person who will be writing your recommendation form. An automated notification will be sent to that person, and they will need to go online to fill out the cover sheet and write the recommendation. If this person does not have access to the Internet, you can download a copy of the recommendation form, and have them fill it out by hand; after this you will need to scan and upload the document to the application (preferred) OR send it by email to AshgabatEducation@state.gov (if an upload is not possible). All supplementary forms written in a language other than English will need to be translated. Translations and originals must be scanned into a single document no bigger than 2MB.

English proficiency form: This can either be filled out by a native English speaker, or by a representative of the U.S. Embassy after the interview (if you are invited to the interview).

TOEFL/GRE/GMAT tests – As part of the selection process, you will need to take these tests (TOEFL/GRE for most candidates, TOEFL/GMAT for MBA candidates). Do not register for any tests on your own – if you pass the interview stage, you will be registered for the test by the U.S. Embassy. If you’ve taken these tests in the past, indicate that in the application. The TOEFL takes place in August, the GRE in October, and the GMAT as needed. Testing expenses are covered by the Fulbright Program.

Due to a large pool of applicants, the U.S. Embassy will only call back selected candidates. If you have not received a call from us, this means you have not been selected.

Applications will be accepted until May 15, 2018.

Application Forms should be completed online at the following address: https://iie.embark.com/apply/ffsp.
