U.S. Embassy Sponsors Professional Development Seminar for English Teachers in Turkmenistan

The U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan held a two-day professional development seminar for English teachers May 20-21, 2017 at Magtymguly Turkmen State University. Three English Language Fellows led the seminar and shared their teaching experiences and methodology with 100 participants from throughout the country. Participants included university professors, fifth-year teaching students from Magtymguly Turkmen State University and the Azadi World Languages Institute, and secondary school teachers from Ashgabat and all five provinces of Turkmenistan.

Ambassador Allan Mustard gave opening remarks and highlighted the importance of English-language teaching for the development of the country. Durdymyrat Annayev, Vice-Rector of Magtymguly Turkmen State University, then underlined that the seminar is in line with the foreign policy of the President of Turkmenistan.

Upon completion of the seminar, participants received certificates and materials on teaching English as a foreign language.
